Let me tell you a story...
It was a beautiful fall afternoon, and my schedule was packed with back-to-back minis. One session would end, and another would begin just minutes later. Everything was running smoothly — until I glanced at my phone and saw that my next session was supposed to start... and my clients weren’t there yet.
Now, normally that would stress me out just a bit. But this family? I knew them. I’d photographed their maternity session, then their newborn session. We had built a rhythm over the years — a comfort and trust that always makes for a great session. So I waited.
Five minutes passed. Still no sign.
And then — they pulled in, landed the perfect parking spot (thank you, universe), and hopped out of the car ready to go. Smiling. Relaxed. Totally themselves.
Mini sessions run on tight timelines. With less time than we had planned, I knew I had to work quickly and intentionally. But honestly? They didn’t need a single extra minute.
In the time we had, we got:
✔️ Everyone smiling and looking at the camera
✔️ Natural candids
✔️ Sweet moments of connection — the in-between stuff you can’t plan for, but love the most
In fact, it ended up being one of my favorite sessions of the day.

It’s easy to wonder if 20 minutes is really enough time. And the answer? Sometimes, it absolutely is.
When families feel comfortable — when we’ve worked together before, or you come in relaxed and open — mini sessions can be magic.
They’re perfect for:
– Quick seasonal updates
– Holiday cards
– Families with young kids who do better with short and sweet
– Anyone who wants a few beautiful images without committing to a full hour
Of course, there are times when a full session is the better fit (more on that in another post!). But if you’ve been on the fence about whether a mini session is “enough,” I hope this story gives you a little peace of mind.
Because sometimes, less really is more.
Want to know if a mini session is right for your family?
I’d love to chat and help you decide what fits your season best.
